Alumni organize 2015 ThunderCruise from Florida to Belize
Book your travel now for a Thunderbird alumni reunion at sea Feb. 14-19, 2015. Alumni and their guests will embark on a five-night cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to Belize City, Belize and then Cozumel, Mexico, on Royal Caribbean’s world-class Liberty of the Seas. The event is a school-sponsored “off-shore homecoming” organized by a group of alumni that vows to create an extraordinary experience for the school’s biggest asset — it’s alumni community.
Organizers are planning a variety of networking opportunities, such as a welcome reception sponsored by the school, a cultural theme night, a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras celebration, a farewell fiesta and other surprises. “It will be heaven for T-birds who love to network with new and old friends and visit new countries while doing something great for their beloved alma mater,” said JP Driessen ‘99, the principal organizer. Options also will be available for shore excursions such as scuba diving, sightseeing and maybe even catching a Carnival parade.
All ThunderCruise reservations should be made through TGW Travel, a Miami-based global travel company owned by alumni Santiago Mejia ’04 and Arturo Perchemlian ’04. The duo leads customized trips around the world for events such as Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, or the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. In the recent past, they organized Thunderbird groups to Iceland, Montenegro and Croatia.
Royal Caribbean’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Carol Ann Schuster ’83 has been instrumental behind the scenes and has committed to making the trip a success. Alumni Heidi Saunders ’99 and Khatchig Jingirian ’97 also are helping to organize the event. Both were past organizers of Global Sounds events on campus when they were students.
